「綿100%」を、表記ではなく物質として成立させた一着。

アパレル製品における品質表示の「綿100%」は、生地の組成を示す表記です。
一方で、品質表示タグや縫製糸、ボタンなどには異なる素材が使用されることが一般的であり、
製品全体として見れば、必ずしも「綿だけ」で構成されているわけではありません。

本作では、生地はもちろん、品質表示タグ、縫製糸、ボタンに至るまで、すべて綿のみで構成することで、
「綿100%」という表記を物質として成立させました。
品質表示という制度上の言葉を、一枚のシャツによって再解釈した作品です。

造形の着想源となったのは、衣服が完成する前段階に用いられる「トワル」です。
完成品でありながら、制作過程の美しさを宿した存在を目指しました。

そのため縫製では、表側にステッチを見せない仕様を採用しています。
シャツでありながら裏地を設けることで、縫い目を内側へと収め、
表面には静かな輪郭だけが現れる構造としました。

この「縫い目を見せない」という考え方は、日本の和装にも通じる美意識の一つです。
制作当初はトワルの持つ造形的な美しさを追求していましたが、その過程で、
結果として日本に古くからある「見せないことの美学」と自然につながっていきました。

In this piece, by ensuring that everything—from the fabric itself to the care label, sewing thread, and buttons—is made exclusively of cotton,
we have made the “100% cotton” label a tangible reality.
This work reinterprets the institutional term “quality label” through a single shirt.

The inspiration for the design came from the “toile,” a prototype used in the preliminary stages of garment production.
We aimed to create a piece that, while a finished product, embodies the beauty of the creative process.

To achieve this, we adopted a construction method that hides the stitches from the front.
Although it is a shirt, we added a lining to conceal the seams on the inside,
resulting in a structure where only a subtle outline appears on the surface.

This concept of “concealing seams” is an aesthetic sensibility shared with traditional Japanese attire.
Initially, I sought to capture the sculptural beauty inherent in toiles, but during the process,
I naturally found myself connecting with Japan’s long-standing “aesthetics of concealment.”
